make a leaf just like in the Mr. Pear pattern and an i-cord stem-sew them into the dimple and embroider and paint on her cute little face.

Front: Work even in ribbing as established until piece measures 3” above sts bound off for neck, end on WS. Bind off in ribbing. Measure up 2” from lower edge on each side of back and front and mark for armholes.

SLEEVES

With RS facing, using straight needles, pick up and k12 sts between markers. Work even in k2, p2 ribbing for 1 1/4”, end on WS. Bind off in ribbing. Sew side and sleeve seams.

FINISHING

Turtleneck: With RS facing, using dpn’s, beg at center back neck, pick up and k16 sts around entire neck edge. Divide sts onto 3 needles. Mark for beg of rnd and carry marker up. Work in k2, p2 ribbing for 1”. Bind off in ribbing. Fold down to RS.
Tie: With crochet hook, make a 10” long chain. Thread chain through tapestry needle and, beg and end at center front, weave in and out of sweater 1 1/2” up from lower edge. Tie as in photo.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS

PONCHO

With dpn’s, using MC, cast on 12 sts. Divide sts evenly on 3 dpn’s (4 sts per needle). Mark for beg of rnd and carry marker up. Work even in St st (k EVERY rnd) for 4 rnds.
Inc Rnd: * K1, M1k, k to last st on needle, M1k, k1, rep from * twice more – 18 sts. Work 2 rnds even. Continue in this manner to rep Inc Rnd every 3rd rnd 5 times more – 48 sts. Work even until piece measures 2 3/4” from beg. Change to B and knit 1 rnd, then purl 1 rnd. Bind off.

FINISHING

Neckband: With RS facing, using crochet hook, join CC in cast-on rnd with a sl st, work 13 sc’s around entire neck edge, join with a sl st in first sc. Fasten off.
Tie: Cut one 10” long strand each of MC and CC. Thread strands into tapestry needle and weave in and out of poncho 1/2” down from neck edge. Tie in bow as in photo. Turn neck edge down to RS.
Embroidery: With tapestry needle and A, work 4-petal lazy daisy flowers as shown in photo. Make French Knot centers with CC.

Christmas Bells

Materials:

Knitting needles - mine were inherited from my Grandmother, made in England, and stamped as Size 9, or 3½ m/m
Patons Brilliant Crystal Cream yarn
brass jingle bells
bodkin or yarn needle

Pattern:

1. Cast on 15 stitches (to make the bell longer, increase this by 5 stitches).

2. Knit across first row.

3. Purl 5 stitches, and knit across remaining stitches.

4. Knit across row.

Repeat Rows 3 and 4 until you have at least 28 rows. (You can increase the number of rows if you'd like the bell to be rounder.) Cast off.

Thread a bodkin with a length of yarn and sew up the short sides (with right sides together). Turn right side out.

Thread bodkin with another length of yarn and sew a gathering stitch around top edge of bell. Pull yarn tight and tie off. Use end of yarn to form a looped hanger at the top of the bell.

With your fingers, roll the purl stitches up into a brim. They will tend to curl out and up anyway; just encourage the process with a little rolling motion of your fingers.

Tie a piece of yarn to the top of a brass jingle bell. Secure this to the top inside of the knitted bell, so that the brass bell hangs just below the rolled brim.

Knit this lovable Santa as a cuddly toy, Christmas door hanger or homemade Christmas ornament.

Materials

small amounts of worsted weight yarns, in red, white and black, plus your color choice for face

small amount of pillow or toy stuffing

US size # 8 needles ( 5 metric)

Gauge - 5 sts = 1 inch

Directions: NOTE - Legs and arms are worked the same, except for the hand part. See below.

For Legs, with black, cast on 4 sts. Knitting across, increase 1 st in each st across.

( 8 ) sts.
Row 2 - Purl
Row 3 - Knit
Row 4 - Purl. Cut black, join white.
Rows 5 and 6 - Knit across in white.

Cut white, join red. Work in stockinette st, ( knit 1 row , purl 1 row ) for 8 rows.
Bind off. Make another leg the same.

For Arms - cast on and work through row 2. Cut black, and join white, and start working on row 5. Finish as above.

Fold arms and legs in half and sew seams, set aside.

Body - with red, cast on 26 sts. Work in stockinette st until work is 2 inches long from beg. Work 2 more rows in stockinette st, then bind off.

Fold body in half on sides, and sew up back seam of body. Sew legs to bottom and arms at top, each side.

Head - With color choice for face, cast on 7 sts.
Row 1 - Knitting across, inc in each st across ( 14 sts )
Row 2 -Purl
Row 3 - Knitting across, inc 1 st in every " second " stitch across ( 21 sts )
Purl 1 row, knit 1 row, for 4 rows, then purl one more row. Cut yarn. Join white and knit 3 rows. Cut white. ( note that white will end at the knit row, you will now begin on purl side )
Join red, and purl across.
Next row - Knitting across, decrease 3 sts evenly spaced across ( 18 sts )
Next row - Purl across.
Next row - *Knit 2, knit 2 tog * repeating between *'s across row, ending knit 2 ( 14 sts)
Next row - Purl across.
Repeat these last 2 rows ( 11 sts )
Next row - Knit 2, knit 2 tog, knit 3, knit 2 tog, knit 2. ( 9 sts )
Next row -Purl.
Next row -* Knit 1, Knit 2 tog * repeat between *'s across row. ( 6 sts )
Next row -Purl
Next row -* Knit 2 tog * across row ( 3 sts ), turn and purl these 3 sts tog.

Cut yarn and fasten off. Sew up back seam of hat, then as you sew down back of head, stuff head lightly, and finish sewing seam.

Sew head to top center of body. Embroider eyes on top of head.

Beard - With white, cast on 2 sts, and knit 1 row.
Row 2 - Knitting across, inc in each st ( 4 sts )
Row 3 -Inc in first st, knit across, inc in last st ( 6 sts )
Row 4 - knit across.
Row 5 - Inc in first 2 sts, knit across, increasing in each of last 2 sts. ( 10 sts )
Row 6 -Knit across.
Repeat last 2 rows , 3 more times. ( 18 sts ), ending on a knit row. Bind off.

Sew beard to front of face, extending narrow ends up to top sides of hat.

NOTE - We bent the tip of the hat to one side of head, and sewed it in place.

For white pompom for tip of hat, wind white yarn around your first 2 fingers tightly about 12 times. Slip off fingers, tie center of the loops firmly. Cut loop ends, and trim even into a small ball shape. Sew this to tip of hat.

Finished Sizes
Small (Regular) [approx ring sizes 4 (6)]

Materials
Crochet Cotton Size 10 or something similar weight; 2 contrasting colors. Needles: US Size 0 (2mm) or smaller (samples worked on 0000). Notions: Sewing needle.

Gauge
10 sts = 1" in Double Knit Stockinette Stitch.


DIRECTIONS
With both yarns held together, create a slip knot and place it on the needle. Using the working strand of each color, hold yarn in usual manner for long-tail cast on. CO 17 (20) sts (NOT including the slip knot) starting with 1 regular cast on, then one Purl or Reverse Long Tail cast-on, alternating between the two. Slide slip knot off the needle. [Alternate CO: Braided Cast-On].

Note: At the beginning of each row, take the working strand of the 2nd color on the needle and twist it under and over the other strand. This will neatly join the edges.
Turn work, designate the first color on the needle as MC (Main Color) and second color as CC (Contrast Color).
Row 1: *With both colors held in back, k1 in MC, bring both strands to front, p1 in CC; rep from *.
Row 2: *With both colors held in back, k1 in CC, bring both strands to front, p1 in MC; rep from *.

While continuing to repeat Rows 1-2, work 16 sts [8 pairs] (20 sts [10 pairs]) and then start working chart. On the chart each square represents two sts. For the RS, the st on the near side fabric, knit in the color shown, and then p the corresponding st in the color not show. For the WS do the reverse.
After completing the chart repeat Rows 1-2 once. BO row: With both colors held in back, k1 in MC, *bring both strands to front, p1 in CC, slip first st on right needle over other two sts and off the needle, bring both strands to back, k1 in MC, slip first st on right needle over other two sts and off the needle; rep from *.

FINISHING
Weave in all ends. With one strand of yarn seam together edges.
